About the job - Round 1

(I really would have liked to call this post "Flashback", but unfortunately, this topic is my main issue right now.)

Now that I wrote enough about the apartment, let me write you about another of my concerns. The other issue I have to face since the hostel kicked me out, is finding a job; Tobias as well.

When we could still sleep at the hostel for few days, Tobias found a call center job for Airbnb in a big call center company in Lisbon. About me, we met someone from the HR of this same company. I asked him to help me, what he did. The next day I got a call and I had some tests to do for my application to the GoPro campaign. But while I was making the tests, I started panicking and wondering if it was really what I wanted. I didn't even do the half of the test and gave up. I don't know what happened in my head at this point.

Tobias had his first day working the next morning, but he didn't go and refused the job.

I think we needed to enjoy our time a little bit, before we finally accept to be call center modern slaves.

After almost two months without doing anything but enjoying the new apartment, Lisbon and our life, Tobias found a job in an another call center company for Xbox, that he accepted.

I started realizing the difference between the German and the French luck.

My problem to find a job here, is simple : the minimum 6 months contract. So, for sure, I could lie. But thinking about lying, I wondered if I took a gap year to feel locked. And my answer was constantly, no.

Now I explain you the German luck : finding a call center job who pays more than the others, the training period his fully paid, you can choose between part or full time, and with monthly contract (you can leave at the end of the month you want!).

In December, the same company said to Tobias that a French line for the Booking campaign will open in February, with the same contract conditions (heaven). So, two months ago, Tobias gave them my CV, and spoke with almost everybody in the HR office.

I was supposed to start the training on February 8. But I'm still waiting for an answer.

Le deuxième problème qui, avec l'appartement, se posait à la suite de notre "licenciement", était : trouver un job.

Alors que nous pouvions, Tobias et moi, profiter de l'hospitalité de l'auberge sans y être volontaires pour quelques jours, il trouva un poste dans une grande compagnie de centre d'appels pour Airbnb. Quelques jours plus tard, nous avons rencontré quelqu'un susceptible de m'aider, qui m'obtenu un interview pour la campagne GoPro dans cette même compagnie. Mais ce soir là, alors que je devais faire tous les tests concernant les produits GoPro sur mon ordinateur, j'ai paniqué. Au fond, est-ce vraiment ce que je voulais ? Non. Tobias, censé commencer sa formation le lendemain, n'y est jamais allé non plus.

Des enfants, diras-tu. Oui.

Je pense qu'après une courte réflexion, nous avons simplement décidé de profiter un peu de la vie sans trop d'entraves; de nous laisser du temps avant de devenir esclaves modernes. Erreur ou non, qui sait ? Peut-ètre. Mais c'était comme ça.

Après deux mois passés à profiter du nouvel appartement, de la Capitale lisboète et de la vie, Tobias a finalement accepté un job pour une autre compagnie de centre d'appels, pour Xbox cette fois.

C'est là que j'ai réalisé qu'il y'avait la chance allemande et la non chance française.

La difficulté pour trouver un job découle du fait que la majorité des compagnies (toutes en fait), embauchent avec des contrats de 6 mois minimum. Ce qui ne colle absolument pas avec mes plans. Donc oui certes j'aurais pu mentir, mais quand je pensais à mentir cette question me revenait instantanément : ai-je pris une année de césure pour me sentir bloquée là où je n'en ai absolument pas envie ? NON.

Maintenant je t'explique ce qu'est la chance allemande. C'est de trouver un boulot dans une compagnie qui paye bien plus que les autres, où la formation est complètement rémunérée, avec la possibilité de choisir entre temps partiel ou complet et avec un contrat de travail mensuel (tu peux décider de partir à la fin de chaque mois !)

Au mois de décembre, la compagnie a fait savoir à Tobias qu'une ligne française s'ouvrirait en février pour Booking.com, avec les mêmes conditionsde contrat que Xbox (le rêve). Il a alors immédiatement donné mon CV à tout le service RH et s'est régulièrement tenu informé de l'avancée du processus.

Quand tout semblait absolument sûr, et que je devais commencer la formation le 8 février... J'attends toujours.
