Asia Step 8 - Laos Si Phan Don or 4000 Islands

We arrive disorientated in Don Det which is the most touristic island of the area. We don't know anything about the place, we have no idea where we're going to sleep and above all we have no money (minus 30$).

After some talks with travelers we choose a guesthouse for 15$ for a double room for 2 nights. The guesthouse (Daloms) also offers an ATM service which saves our lives.

To hang around by night, it's better to have a torch light (or a smart phone) with you because it's quiet dark in the "streets". Some restaurants, without being far, are still hard to reach because of the darkness.

Don Det seems crazy small, the mood is absolutely chilled, almost hippie. The prices are everywhere the same as everyone know each other.

I guess two days are enough there, as it can quickly become boring. Even though there's not so much to do, it's worth it to see it shortly for one reason : the landscape.

The nature is even more amazing in the next island, after crossing the French bridge, Don Kon. I'll write about Don Kon in the next post about Si Phan Don.

French Bridge

To conclude, Si Phan Don is just the perfect short stop between Cambodia and Laos.

After two days there, we book a minivan for Pakse (70 000 kip per person).
