Asia Step 13 - Laos Discovering the Jewel of Asia : Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang, the town.

Elected in 2015 as the best town to travel (Wanderlust Travel Awards), Luang Prabang is for sure a highlight of this trip.

The clean and enlightened streets invite you to walk around in a nice city center with plenty of cafes, restaurants, tour agencies and handicraft shops.

Despite a certain ''Occidental atmosphere" (comfort...) the traditional Asian architecture remembers you where you actually are. Between charming guesthouses made out of dark wood, the gold of colorful temples is shinning under the warm sun.

The sight of the Mekong, which separates you from the lush green mountains on the back, finishes to fulfills your dreams of what an Asian town should look like.

Do not go to bed too early as Luang Prabang, at night, changes into a huge market ready to challenge your wallet. Even though the town stays late awake, this is not a place to party and do, but more a place to feel and catch up the laid back mood.

As we heard about several waterfalls around Luang Prabang, we don't loose our new favorite habit : renting a scooter. On a road running along forests, the way to few waterfalls is worth it.
