Der Viktualienmarkt
Our first move once arrived in Munich is to check the Viktualienmarkt and its looking-delicious artisanal products. We spend most of our time at the spices stall, tasting half of it, and watching at Petra (Tobias's Mom) buying everything in sight (ahah).
Das Augustiner Brauhaus
Neuhauser Str. 27, 80331 München
After a first shopping session, we realize that we're all very hungry and so pick a very particular place to lunch : the Augustiner Brauhaus. I guess you can hardly do more Bavarian.

This brewery was founded in 1328 by Augustinian monks, it's the oldest independent brewery of Munich and ofcourse one of the Oktoberfest official beers.

Inside the Brauhaus, you're overwhelmed by such an unusual atmosphere, it strongly smells Bavarian food and beer, it's quite loud, the waiters and waitresses are dressed in the traditional Bavarian way and carry huge and heavy trays full of plates and beers, EVERYWHERE is BEER.

Sauerbraten und Knödel
(Petra's dish)
Saurbraten is a very typical German beef meat dish (as Boeuf Bourguignon is for France for instance). Basically it consists of braised beef meat with a specific sweet and sour sauce.
Knödel (the kind of ball in the plate) is originally an Austrian culinary speciality but you also find it a lot in Germany, especially in Bavaria. It exists different sorts of knödel depending on what is in the dough.

1/4 Ente mit Rotkraut und Knödel
(Tanja's dish)
The actual dish on this pic is supposed to be the "kid-size option" ... Bavarians ... I guess the normal one is 1/2 duck [yes, Ente means duck]. Rotkraute means red cabbage (chou rouge).

Pfifferlinge in Rahmsauce mit Knödel
(Tobias and my dish)
As we don't eat meat, no duck or sauerbraten for us... but a knödel as well with mushrooms (chanterelles) and a delicious sauce.
Rischart Apfelstrudel
Viktualienmarkt 2, 80331 München

OK, Apfelstrudel is also originally from Austria, but being in Bavaria or more generally in South Germany... let's enjoy it !
Few more pics of München :

Maibaum auf dem Viktualienmarkt
Maibaum means Maypole in English and Arbre de Mai ou Mât de Mai in French it's an old pagan tradition especially in Bavaria.

View on the Neues Rathaus (New City Hall) and the Frauenkirche (the two towers in the back)
Marienplatz 8, 80331 München

The Neues Rathaus

I guess the most famous thing, worldwide, in Munich is the Oktoberfest. In 2017 it starts the 16th September and ends the 3rd october. We saw the place is already in preparation, the tents are being built.
We are seriously thinking of going for one week-end after our trip in Açores, hopefully we can. Let's see !
