One day walking around the idyllic Eibsee (Yes, this is in Germany)

Through South Germany passing by a small part of Austria (the picturesque region of Tyrol), we drive from Meersburg at 11 am to the wonderful Eibsee where we arrive at approximately 2.30 pm (because of traffic jam).

Some tips are at the end of the post !

You'll find this lake located at the bottom of the highest mountain of Germany, the Zugspitze, which peaks at nearly 3000 m in Bavaria. Going there, you'll see a quite amazing german landscape... dark green pines, clear greeny-blue water, white rocks. Reminding sometimes Canada, sometimes Greece, this place is a real dreamy postcard.

The only problem is as the lake has itself a nearly 1000m of altitude the wether seems quite capricious and it's such a challenge to schedule it on a sunny day.

Around 2 hours are needed to walk the full way along the water through the beautiful pine forest. Some amazing spots to take a break are often appearing behind the trees, there you can enjoy a refreshing swim, a beer, a snack, ... just ENJOY it !

- TIPS -

• As I said, it's really important to check the weather before, and organise your trip according to the sun. If the meteo indicates that it's gonna be partly cloudy it's still ok (it was our case).

• Don't forget your bath suit and the sun screen !

• There is a restaurant-biergarten located at the very beginning of the lake promenade, the "Eibsee Pavillon". It looks great but I guess the prices are quite high, and eating your homemade picnic on a white rock at the greeny-blue water seems to be a better experience (according to me). So, my advise : prepare a tasty picnic and bring some beers ofcourse !

• If you drive the same way we drove don't worry about the Highway Toll Sticker (Vignette you need to buy and stick in the front of your car to use Austrian highway), for crossing Tyrol to reach Eibsee you don't need it !

• Don't worry about where to park your car neither, there is an extensive parking right at the lake and super cheap !
